Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested two suspected criminals linked to the brutal killing of Brigadier General Uwem Udokwere (retd.) at his Abuja residence in June 2024.

The suspects, identified as Alkasim Mohammed and Suleiman Abdullahi, were apprehended during a sting operation by the police’s Scorpion Squad in Durumi Phase 2, Abuja.

According to intelligence sources cited by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the duo is part of a notorious gang responsible for multiple violent crimes in the FCT.

During the operation, police recovered a Beretta pistol with breach number 58866 and 11 rounds of 9mm live ammunition.

Under interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the murder of Udokwere, detailing how they scaled the fence of his home in Sunshine Estate, Lokogoma, before fatally shooting him.

Further investigations have linked the gang to several other high-profile crimes, including the March 7, 2024, murder of Bureau de Change operator Alhaji Auwal Abdullahi at Rita Lori Hotel, Garki.

The same pistol found in their possession was allegedly used in an armed robbery incident where a POS operator, Miss Mercy Alo, was dispossessed of ₦700,000 in Jabi. The gang also shot a customer, Daniel Inalegwu, in the lower thigh during the attack before escaping.

Security operatives believe the gang has been involved in a string of home burglaries, car thefts, and kidnappings across Abuja and neighbouring states.

Efforts are now underway to track down the remaining members of the criminal network, with police intensifying operations to curb violent crime in the capital city.

“We have strong leads on other gang members and are working to recover more weapons. This arrest is a major breakthrough in tackling high-profile criminal activities in the FCT,” a security source revealed.

The suspects are expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
