President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has donated 5,000 cartons of food items to Muslim communities across Ogun State as part of efforts to support citizens and promote inclusive governance under his Renewed Hope Agenda.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the distribution took place on Wednesday, in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, and was overseen by Sheik Iskeel Lawal , the Wakilu of Muslims in Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta states who is also the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Islamic Religious Matters.
Speaking at the event, Sheik Awwal in company of the Secretary-General, Ogun State Muslim Council, Alhaj Kamaldeen Akintunde stated that the donation was a gesture from President Tinubu to support Muslim communities, adding that the food items would be distributed fairly.
He noted that 53 Islamic societies would benefit from the initiative this year, an increase from 38 societies last year.
“I must tell you that among the states that benefited last year, Ogun State had the most transparent and effective distribution process, which was acknowledged by the President. This has given us the privilege to continue using the same committee for this year’s distribution,” he said.
He added that some radio stations and additional societies had been included in the scheme to ensure wider reach.
In his remarks, the Balogun of Itesi Muslim Community, Alhaji Kamorudeen Akitunde, urged Muslims to pray for the President and his administration, emphasizing that prayers for leaders would foster peace and development in the country.
He also encouraged Muslims to live in harmony and support one another while appreciating the federal government’s efforts.
Akintunde in his remarks said the Muslims community wa grateful for the gesture.
He said the Muslims community which comprises various organisations would be well considered in the distribution.
