The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has taken decisive action against individuals who defiled the Ile Epo Pedestrian Bridge in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State by defecating on it.
The offenders, described as hoodlums, were apprehended on Saturday by the ministry’s enforcement team and compelled to clean the bridge, restoring it to a hygienic condition.
This development was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“The Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources enforcement team has taken decisive action at Ile Epo Pedestrian Bridge, addressing the issue of hoodlums who defiled the bridge with waste and defecation,” Wahab stated.
He added that the exercise served as a corrective measure and a warning to others who might engage in similar acts.
In a related development, the Lagos State Environmental Task Force carried out raids on several hotspots within Ikeja on Saturday, arresting 27 suspects accused of criminal activities.
According to the commissioner, these areas, including black spots around Ayinke House, the Ikeja underbridge, and the vicinity of Ambiance Hotel, had been turned into hideouts for miscreants who allegedly attacked unsuspecting passersby.
“These miscreants dispossess innocent people of their personal belongings, especially during late and early hours,” Wahab explained. He further noted that the suspects would be charged to court to face justice.
The ministry’s actions highlight the Lagos State government’s commitment to maintaining cleanliness and ensuring public safety across the state.
