Controversial Nigerian crossdresser and social media influencer Idris Okunleye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of being more brutal and oppressive than the Nigeria Police Force.
Bobrisky made this assertion on his Instagram stories following the EFCC’s announcement of the death of Assistant Superintendent Aminu Sahabi Salisu, who was fatally attacked on duty by a suspected internet fraudster, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu, on January 17, 2025.
Reacting to the incident, Bobrisky expressed disdain for the EFCC, accusing the agency of mistreating Nigerians and describing its call for public sympathy as hypocritical.
“You are asking the public to be human about the loss of one of your staff, but you are the most wicked people in Nigeria,” he wrote.
Bobrisky’s comments came amid lingering controversies surrounding his past encounters with law enforcement.
In October 2024, he was arrested at the Seme border while attempting to enter Benin Republic to evade an ongoing investigation by the House of Representatives.
The investigation was linked to leaked audio recordings in which he allegedly confessed to bribing Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) officials to avoid imprisonment.
A month later, in November, the crossdresser was detained at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport while trying to board a flight to London. He eventually left Nigeria four days after the incident.
In his latest post, Bobrisky recounted his experience with the EFCC, claiming they wrongfully accused him of money laundering and printing counterfeit notes during a search of his residence.
“When I was in your custody, you took me to my house and searched my house. When I asked why, you claimed I’m into money laundering and wanted to check if I’m printing money in my house. Police are 100 better than you all, 1 million times,” he wrote.
He added “after writing my statement you asked me to give you papaya number I told you I don’t have her no, even if I’m not talking to her I wont be heartless to set her up like that cos i wasn’t train to be a snitch.”
The EFCC had earlier condemned what it described as “irresponsible, callous, inhuman and outrageous narratives” surrounding the death of its officer.
The Commission decried the public support for the suspected fraudster involved in the fatal attack, describing such actions as undermining its efforts to combat financial crimes.
However, Bobrisky dismissed the agency’s statement, alleging that it engages in harassment and brutality against citizens. He also criticized the EFCC’s tactics during his interrogation, claiming they pressured him to incriminate others.
The crossdresser further explained that despite receiving an EFCC invitation letter, he chose to honor it rather than flee the country.
“If I was a bad citizen, I would have left Nigeria immediately after receiving the invitation. But I said no, I’m a public figure, let me honor their invitation,” he said.
