The Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Dr. Michael Gbadebo, has revealed that the kidnappers of Mrs. Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, are demanding a ransom of N40million for her release.
The abduction occurred on Thursday night in Arepo, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to reports, four masked men accosted Mrs. Odumosu around 9:55 p.m. as she was entering her residence.
The assailants reportedly dragged her out of her Lexus SUV and led her through a swampy area to an undisclosed location.
Speaking at the 49th President’s party of the Abeokuta Club, where he serves as the grand patron, Oba Gbadebo lamented the incident, describing it as a grave security concern.
He disclosed that the abductors had contacted the police, demanding the hefty ransom.
“The kidnapping happened in Egbaland. The kidnappers have called the police, asking for N40 million. If we join forces with the police, Amotekun, and other security agencies, we can tackle this insecurity,” the monarch stated.
Oba Gbadebo also commended Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for his commitment to enhancing security in the state.
He highlighted the recent graduation of 700 Amotekun recruits in Sagamu and the governor’s pledge to approve an additional 1,000 recruits to strengthen the security outfit’s capacity against criminal activities.
Meanwhile, six days after the abduction, Mrs. Odumosu remains in captivity, with no reports of her rescue.
Efforts to reach the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful as her phone was switched off at the time of filing this report.
However, Odutola had earlier disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer of the Warewa Division had visited the crime scene as part of ongoing investigations.
The abduction of Mrs. Odumosu underscores the growing concern over insecurity in Ogun State and the need for collaborative efforts to curb criminal activities.
