The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has arrested a 54-year-old man, Adelani Oriyomi, for allegedly attempting to exhume a human skull in Kere, Obada-Oko, Abeokuta.
The So-Safe Corps disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by its Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo, through the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.
According to the statement, officers of the So-Safe Corps on routine patrol intercepted the suspect at around 2:35 a.m. on Sunday while he was digging a tomb behind a church.
Oriyomi, who initially tried to hide, resumed digging when he thought the coast was clear but was immediately apprehended by the officers.
During interrogation, Oriyomi reportedly confessed that he had previously exhumed a skull from a tomb near his residence on January 18, 2025, and hidden it in his room.
He revealed that he was attempting to retrieve another skull to complete the requirements for a ritual preparation known as Osole, intended for financial gain.
Oriyomi also admitted to being a repeat offender, having sold nearly ten human skulls in the past.
He disclosed that he had been previously arrested and served two years in prison for a similar offense in Ado-Odo, followed by an additional six years and nine months at the Oba Correctional Center for another conviction in Obada-Oko.
Commander Ganzallo confirmed that the suspect and the recovered exhibit—a fully dried human skull—have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Obada Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Ganzallo urged community leaders to take proactive measures in screening tenants and visitors to curb criminal activities within their neighborhoods.
He emphasized that such vigilance could account for 70% of home security, with the remaining 30% dependent on alertness to external threats.
