The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has declared that there is no vacancy in Aso Rock ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that newly formed political parties cannot govern Nigeria.
Okpebholo made this assertion on Wednesday in Benin City while addressing chairmen of the 17 local government councils who had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, the campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election has already commenced in Edo State, and his administration is fully committed to ensuring Tinubu’s continued leadership beyond 2027.
“There is no vacancy in 2027 in Abuja. Those forming a political party now can’t rule us. They governed their states, and the people suffered from kidnapping, but since they left office, their states are now free. Such people can’t rule Nigeria,” Okpebholo declared.
He emphasized that Edo State is solidly behind President Tinubu and tasked the newly defected chairmen with spearheading grassroots mobilization for the president’s re-election bid.
“2027 is a reality in Edo State, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will continue in office. I charge the 17 of you today that the campaign for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu has started here today.Go back to your various local governments and erect his billboards to drive home the message of re-electing President Tinubu,” he added.
The governor expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure a landslide victory in 2027, praising his leadership style and bold policy decisions, including the removal of the fuel subsidy, which he described as a necessary step towards national development.
Okpebholo also appreciated the former governor of Edo State and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, the state APC chairman, Jarret Tenebe, and all party members for their continued support and sacrifices in strengthening the party’s dominance in the state.
