Some senior secondary school students of Ebira Muslim Community College Okengwe (EMCCO) in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State have allegedly beat their Physics teacher, Mr. Muktar Salihu, into a coma.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the students, identified as members of a suspected cult group operating within the school, were reportedly behind the assault.
The group, allegedly led by an SS2 student, Abdulbatin, son of the Opokitipo of Esusu clan in Okengwe district, is said to have carried out the attack as part of a larger plot to exert control over the institution.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the students humiliated and attacked Mr. Salihu, leaving him unconscious.
He is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, where his condition remains guarded.
In reaction to the incident, a concerned teacher at the school has called on relevant authorities to intervene and restore order.
“We urge the State Ministry of Education, State Education Board, security agencies, and other relevant authorities to urgently swing into action to bring the perpetrators to book, prevent future occurrences, and instill discipline in our schools,” the teacher stated.
The District Police Officer in the area has reportedly stepped in, summoning the traditional ruler, Abdulbatin’s father, to produce his son for questioning.
The officer has given a strict deadline for compliance, vowing to ensure justice is served.
