Emir Sanusi Rains Curses On Troublemakers In Kano

Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, has condemned individuals opposing his reinstatement, declaring that divine punishment would befall those inciting unrest in the state.

Speaking at a special Iftar at his palace on Sunday, Sanusi urged Kano residents to maintain peace and respect the law, emphasizing that his return to the throne was an act of God.

“We urge everyone to maintain peace. This issue is beyond us; it is about God’s will, and He needs no one’s assistance,” he said in Hausa in a video seen by PLATFORM.

The emir, however, did not hold back in his response to those challenging his authority, warning that they would face dire consequences.

“May fire consume anyone seeking to cause trouble in Kano. May Allah protect us and our community from all evil,” Sanusi prayed. “Whoever challenges God’s judgment will never succeed.”

Sanusi’s comments come amid an ongoing tussle over the emirship of Kano, which has lasted for months.

In May 2024, a high court barred Aminu Ado Bayero from parading himself as the emir following Sanusi’s reinstatement.

The latest tension escalated after Governor Abba Yusuf directed emirate councils to commence preparations for the sallah durbar, a festive event celebrated in Kano.

However, Bayero, the deposed emir, reportedly notified security agencies of his plans to hold a rival durbar in commemoration of his fifth year as monarch.

The situation has continued to divide the state, with both factions holding firm to their claims over the historic throne.
