Despite receiving a staggering ₦90,377,144,498.08 in federal allocations between January and December 2024, the Ogun State government faces mounting criticism over deteriorating infrastructure across the state.
Data obtained from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) reveal that the state received substantial monthly disbursements, with the highest amount of ₦11.07 billion allocated in August 2024 and the lowest, ₦5.28 billion, in March 2024.
However, residents and stakeholders lament that these funds have not translated into visible improvements in road networks, public utilities, and essential services.
Speaking to journalists, community leaders in key areas like Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, and Sango-Ota decried the worsening state of roads, poor drainage systems, and the slow pace of infrastructural projects.
A resident of Sango-Ota, Mr. Tunde Olatunji, expressed frustration over the government’s failure to rehabilitate major roads despite repeated promises.
“The government keeps collecting billions, yet we are left with roads filled with potholes, lack of potable water, and failing public schools. Where is the money going?” he queried.
Similarly, civil society organizations have urged transparency in the state’s financial management, calling on Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration to publish a detailed breakdown of how these allocations have been utilized.
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) recently demanded an audit of Ogun State’s finances, citing concerns over uncompleted projects and budget discrepancies.
