The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar Sa’ad, has announced the sighting of the crescent moon, marking the end of Ramadan fasting. Consequently, Sunday, March 30, 2025, has been declared as Eid-el-Fitr.

In a broadcast on Saturday, the Sultan, who also serves as the President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, confirmed that the holy month had come to an end, and Muslims worldwide would celebrate the festival on Sunday.

“Today marks the end of the Ramadan fasting, and tomorrow, Sunday, 30th March, 2025, becomes the 1st day of Shawwal 1446 and the Eid-el-Fitr day,” he stated.

He prayed for Allah’s blessings upon all those who observed the Ramadan fast and sought divine guidance for leaders at all levels of government.

Muslims across the world commenced the Ramadan fast on March 1, refraining from eating, drinking, and engaging in intimate relations from dawn till dusk for either 29 or 30 days, as prescribed in Islamic tradition.

To mark the celebration, the Federal Government had earlier declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, as public holidays, allowing Muslim faithful ample time to partake in the festivities.

Eid-el-Fitr, which translates to “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is a significant Islamic event that signifies the completion of a month-long period of fasting, reflection, and devotion.

It is celebrated with prayers, feasting, and acts of charity towards the less privileged.
