The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has issued a stern ultimatum to both the Edo State and federal governments, demanding swift justice for the brutal killings of 16 hunters in the Uromi area of Edo State.

The victims, all of northern descent, were tragically lynched by a mob on suspicion of being kidnappers while en route to Kano from Elele, Rivers State.

In a statement released on Saturday, NEF spokesperson Abubakar Jiddere condemned the “barbaric, extra-judicial, and cowardly killing” of the hunters.

The forum emphasized that the perpetrators must face public prosecution to ensure transparency and accountability, urging both governments to arrest and trial all individuals involved in the heinous act.

President Bola Tinubu has already ordered a swift investigation by security agencies following the incident, which has sparked outrage and calls for justice across northern communities.

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 14 suspects linked to the attack.

Furthermore, NEF demanded the prompt retrieval of the victims’ bodies for honorable burials according to their faiths, alongside compensation for the affected families.

The forum warned of potential repercussions should the authorities fail to act decisively in bringing the perpetrators to justice and preventing future occurrences of such violence.
