Ohha Microfinance Bank Limited has issued a stern ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, demanding the immediate production of an uncompleted four-bedroom bungalow located in Centenary City, Enugu.
The bank has also reportedly threatened N100m lawsuit against the commission over the missing property at the expiration of the ultimatum.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the property, recovered from convicted fraudster Oliver Anidiobi, has allegedly gone missing while in EFCC custody.
According to a pre-action notice dated January 28, 2025, the bank asserts that despite a court order in 2019 mandating the sale of the property and subsequent payment to the bank, the EFCC has failed to comply.
The notice, signed by Olu Omotayo Esq. on behalf of the bank, warns of legal action seeking compensation amounting to N100 million if the property is not produced within three months.
Anidiobi, a former bank manager convicted for diverting N219 million from Ohha Microfinance Bank, had used the illicit funds to develop various properties, including the disputed bungalow.
The bank’s petition to the EFCC Zonal Office in February 2024, requesting an investigation into the missing property, remains unanswered, exacerbating their frustration.
In response to queries, the EFCC confirmed the involvement of its Enugu Zonal office in Anidiobi’s prosecution, culminating in an eight-year sentence and the court-ordered attachment and sale of his acquired assets, including the contentious bungalow.
However, during subsequent efforts to verify the property’s existence, EFCC officials allegedly could not locate it, prompting further legal disputes.
Expressing dismay over the EFCC’s handling of the case, Ohha Microfinance Bank accuses the commission of negligence and potential misconduct, asserting that the disappearance of the property undermines the integrity of judicial processes.
