Wife Petitions DSS, Police Over Missing Imo Pastor

An emotionally distressed woman, Mrs. Chigozie Akamnonu, has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, over the mysterious disappearance of her husband, Reverend Pastor Eric Akamnonu.

The cleric, a native of Ndiakunwata-Uno, Arondizuogu in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, was declared missing on Monday, February 24, 2025, after failing to return to his base in Aba, Abia State, following a visit to his hometown.

According to Mrs. Akamnonu, her husband had traveled to Arondizuogu on Sunday, February 23, to inspect a piece of land on behalf of his elder brother, Mazi Cyprian Chukwuemeka Akamnonu, who resides in the United States. He had met with one Mazi Ebere Onyenucheya, who introduced him to the land for sale.

Mrs. Akamnonu narrated that her husband arrived safely at their country home, spent the night, and left the following morning to meet Mazi Onyenucheya. From there, he proceeded to the home of one Mr. Umualaoma, whose brother owned the land in question.

The last known communication from the pastor was on the morning of February 24, when he answered a call from a business client of his wife.

He informed the caller that he was in Arondizuogu and advised her to call his wife’s direct line. Shortly after, his phone was switched off, and he has been unreachable since then.

Mrs. Akamnonu became alarmed when her husband’s relatives in Arondizuogu claimed that he had left for Aba the previous day. She expressed deep concern over conflicting accounts regarding his departure and whereabouts.

“I was panic-stricken when the narratives about when he supposedly left for Aba did not add up. It has been over a month, and all efforts to trace him have been unsuccessful.

I am traumatised day and night, and I fear for his life,” she lamented. “Whoever is holding him should please release him alive. He is a man of high moral standing and has never been involved in any controversy.”

In her petition, submitted through the family’s attorney, A.O. Amagwula & Co., Mrs. Akamnonu appealed for a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the pastor’s disappearance.

The family lawyer, Arinzechukwu Nwaudo of A.O. Nwaudo & Co. Law Chambers, confirmed that a similar petition had been filed with the DSS office in Owerri.

“We have engaged both the police and DSS in a concerted effort to locate and rescue Pastor Akamnonu. The conflicting narratives raise strong suspicions of foul play, including possible abduction.

We trust the law enforcement agencies to get to the root of this mystery,” Nwaudo stated.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, acknowledged receipt of the petition.

He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police had directed officers to investigate the case and establish the pastor’s whereabouts.

Okoye reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
