Two years following the brutal murders of Mr. Kehinde and Mrs. Bukola Farinoye, along with their son Oreoluwa at the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ibara, Abeokuta, justice has been served as the Abeokuta High Court handed down its verdict.
Lekan Adekanbi, Ahmed Odetola, and Waheed Adeniyi, the prime suspects in this heinous crime, have been condemned to death by hanging.
The tragic events occured on January 1, 2023, when the Farinoye family fell victim to a horrific attack in their home at Ibara Housing Estate.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the assailants not only robbed the family of substantial sums of money and valuable property, including a Hyundai vehicle worth N12 million, but also perpetrated unfathomable acts of violence.
PLATFORM TIMES further reports that Mr. Kehinde Farinoye was fatally stabbed, Mrs. Bukola Farinoye was brutally assaulted with a sledgehammer and a knife, and their son Oreoluwa met a tragic end after being bound and thrown into the Ogun River.
During the sentencing, Justice Basirat Adebowale declared, “You Adekanbi, Adetola, and Adeniyi, for killing father, mother, and son, you don’t deserve mercy.
“ You are hereby hanged by your neck until you are dead.” The judge cited multiple sections of the law, including the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, under which the defendants were found guilty of charges including armed robbery, murder, and arson.
The court proceedings also brought to justice several accomplices implicated in aiding and concealing the perpetrators.
Mrs. Temitope Fadairo, wife of Lekan Adekanbi, received a two-year prison sentence for obstructing justice by harboring her husband during the investigation.
Adenike Adekanbi, mother of Lekan Adekanbi, was sentenced to one year for providing false statements to the police.
Azeez Usman, convicted of receiving stolen property, was sentenced to 14 years with hard labor, and Anuoluwapo Owolaja received a two-year imprisonment term.
Abass Odetola and Lukmon Adewusi, however, were acquitted of all charges against them.
