Former governor of Oyo State, Rasidi Ladoja, has issued a stern warning to Chief Bisi Akande, the former governor of Osun State, threatening legal action if Akande does not retract statements implicating him in the withdrawal of the case file concerning the assassination of late Chief Bola Ige, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.
Speaking at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, Ladoja vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that neither he nor his administration had withdrawn the case from court.
He clarified this position while addressing journalists on Monday in response to recent claims made by Akande.
The controversy stems from remarks made by Akande alleging that the case initiated by late Alhaji Lamidi Adesina, a former governor of Oyo State, regarding Chief Bola Ige’s assassination, was withdrawn during Ladoja’s tenure.
Akande further suggested that Ladoja possessed undisclosed information relating to the assassination.
In his defense, Ladoja emphasized, “I did not withdraw the case, my government did not withdraw any case.”
He challenged Akande to retract his statements and issue an apology for what he termed as false accusations.
Ladoja also criticized Akande for allegedly making baseless allegations against various public figures in his recently published book.
Addressing reporters, Ladoja recounted his personal relationship with Chief Bola Ige, highlighting their closeness during the late minister’s lifetime.
He expressed dismay over the ongoing implications and reiterated his commitment to seeking justice for Chief Bola Ige’s untimely demise.
Meanwhile, reactions to Akande’s claims have been varied, with some prominent figures reportedly disputing the veracity of his statements.
Ladoja referenced voices within the community, including respected elder statesman Baba Adebanjo, who have questioned the accuracy of Akande’s assertions.
As the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland and a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, Ladoja remains resolute in his quest for accountability and justice regarding Chief Bola Ige’s assassination.
He concluded his statement by reaffirming his readiness to pursue legal avenues if Akande fails to retract his comments and issue a formal apology.
