More Trouble For Ogun Monarch As Falana Takes Over Case Of 73-Year-Old Man Assaulted
The suspended Olorile of Orile Ifo, Oba Semiu Ogunjobi, faces escalating legal challenges as renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, steps in to pursue justice on behalf of 73-year-old Areola Abraham.
The septuagenarian was viciously assaulted in a widely circulated video allegedly involving the monarch.
National Vice President of the Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Yinka Folarin, confirmed to PLATFORM TIMES on Wednesday that Falana has committed to representing Abraham in seeking redress for the violation of his fundamental human rights.
The development came to light during a meeting at Falana’s chambers in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, where the elder victim was received.
“Femi Falana, SAN, and Chairman of the CDHR Board of Trustees, welcomed Elder Areola Abraham, to his chambers at Adekunle Fajuyi, GRA, Ikeja, today.
“ Falana has been briefed on the incident and has pledged to pursue legal action against the suspended monarch,” stated Folarin.
The CDHR, renowned for its advocacy in protecting human rights across Nigeria, has taken a firm stance on the matter.
Former CDHR Ogun Chairman and human rights advocate, Comrade Soyombo Sunday, also attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, Oba Ogunjobi finds himself in further legal jeopardy following his recent remand in a correctional facility in Ilaro, Ogun State.
The decision came after the Ifo Magistrate Court declined to grant him bail, in line with charges related to actions deemed detrimental to the esteemed traditional institution he represents.
Yinka Odukoya, spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service in Ogun State, confirmed the monarch’s remand, emphasizing the gravity of the accusations levied against him.
The suspension of Oba Ogunjobi by the state government shows the severity of the allegations.
The government’s statement cited actions by the monarch that allegedly tarnished the reputation of his revered position, prompting a swift and decisive response.
