The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has attributed the growing get-rich-quick mentality among Nigerian youths to misleading portrayals in Nollywood movies, social media, and religious institutions.
She made this statement on Friday when the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Bello, led top officials of the agency on a visit to her office at the State House, Abuja.

Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady decried the increasing influence of social media and entertainment content in shaping unrealistic aspirations among young Nigerians.
She linked this trend to the country’s rising cases of human trafficking and exploitation.
“The get-rich-quick syndrome is not helping matters. Even our religious institutions are preaching prosperity, and even the Bible talks about work. Social media is also not helping. Nollywood as well,” Tinubu said.
Expressing her support for NAPTIP’s fight against human trafficking, she promised to engage the wives of state governors to strengthen advocacy and awareness campaigns against the menace.
Bello, while briefing the First Lady, described trafficking as the second-largest transnational organized crime in the world after drug trafficking.
She highlighted the alarming rate of human trafficking in Nigeria and the urgent need for stakeholder involvement.
She also pointed out that despite NAPTIP’s recent successes, including the rescue of 21 victims trafficked from Niger State and the busting of a baby factory in Abuja, challenges such as resource limitations and gaps in legal frameworks persist.
The First Lady also met with the new national executives of the National Council for Women Societies of Nigeria, led by its National President, Princess Edna Azura.
She reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening families through the Renewed Hope Initiative and encouraged the council to maximize available programs at the subnational level.
