Eighteen out of the 20 local government areas of Ogun State received a cumulative allocation of N16.39bn from the Federation Account in the first two months of 2025, a PLATFORM TIMES investigation has revealed.
The data, sourced from BudgIT and reviewed by PLATFORM TIMES, covered allocations disbursed in January and February 2025.
However, allocation figures for two LGAs—Odeda and Sagamu—were missing as of Thursday, April 17, leaving the analysis to just 18 councils.
Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, which borders Lagos State and is one of the fastest-growing areas in Ogun, topped the list with the highest allocation of N1.49bn. The breakdown shows that Ado-Odo/Ota had N688.7m in January and N805.4m in February.
Close behind was Ifo Local Government, which received N1.49bn across both months—N697.7m in January and N792.4m in February.
Remo North followed with a total of N1.08bn, broken down into N445.6m in January and N592.4m in February.
The state capital LGAs, Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South, received N935.5m and N998.3m respectively.
Abeokuta North got N434.1m in January and N501.5m in February, while Abeokuta South received N462.9m in January and N535.4m in February
Other LGAs that received allocations in the N900m range include Egbado North (N931.8m), Ijebu East (N946.9m), Ipokia (N915.3m), and Obafemi Owode (N910.8m).
These LGAs received between N432m and N520.6m monthly.
Egbado South, which shares a border with the Republic of Benin, got N877.3m in total—N407.5m in January and N469.8m in February.
In the Ijebu axis, Ijebu North and Ijebu-Ode received N880.8m and N845.9m respectively.
Ijebu North was allocated N393.3m in January and N452.6m in February, while Ijebu Ode received N407.5m in January and N469.8m in February.
Other LGAs such as Ijebu North East (N726.2m), Ikenne (N776.7m), Imeko Afon (N790.6m), and Odogbolu (N759.2m) hovered in the mid-N700m range over the two months.
Their individual monthly allocations ranged between N341.7m and N512.2m.
At the bottom of the chart were Ewekoro and Ogun Waterside, which received the lowest allocations.
Ewekoro was allocated N674.97m—N315.4m in January and N359.6m in February—while Ogun Waterside got N693.89m, with N323.4m in January and N370.5m in February.
The absence of data for Sagamu and Odeda LGAs raises concerns over transparency and access to public financial records in the state.
While efforts to obtain explanations for the omission were ongoing at the time of filing this report, civil society groups have repeatedly called for improved disclosure in local government finance.
The N16.39bn shared among the 18 councils in two months underlines the scale of public funds managed at the local level.
Analysts say increased accountability and visibility into how these funds are utilized are crucial for grassroots development.
Attempts to get official reactions from the Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs were unsuccessful as the officials could not be reached as of the time of filing this report .
