In a dramatic political twist, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in the state have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The mass defection was confirmed on Wednesday in Asaba by Senator James Manager after a marathon closed-door meeting at the Delta State Government House that lasted over six hours.

“All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC,” Manager stated. “We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat.”

The state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, also confirmed the development, saying the decision was made in the interest of Delta’s continued development and political alignment.

“In adjusting our drinking pattern, we realised we needed to make a decision that would further help cement development in our state,” Aniagwu said. “We believe the PDP, as it stands, is like palm wine that has lost its taste — it was time to change the drinking party.”

Aniagwu described the move as a unanimous resolution by PDP stakeholders across Delta and hinted at an official declaration expected on Monday.
