Prominent Nigerian businesswoman and philanthropist, Mrs. Aisha Achimugu, returned to the country in the early hours of Monday, April 29, 2025, to honour an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding an ongoing investigation.

Mrs. Achimugu, who arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja around 5:00 am, proceeded directly to the EFCC headquarters to meet with officials of the Commission.

Her return follows a formal invitation from the anti-graft agency dated March 4, 2025.

In a statement issued by her legal representatives, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN) and Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), the businesswoman was said to have been temporarily out of the country due to prior engagements at the time the EFCC invitation was issued.

However, she reportedly maintained open communication with the Commission, sending two letters dated March 5 and March 12, respectively, affirming her willingness to cooperate and specifying April 28 and 29 as her intended return dates.

“Mrs. Achimugu has demonstrated her respect for due process and Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions by honouring the EFCC’s invitation without hesitation upon her return,” the statement read in part.

The lawyers commended the EFCC for the “professionalism, maturity, and patience” exhibited during her absence, describing the agency’s conduct as “measured and exemplary.”

While details of the investigation remain undisclosed, Mrs. Achimugu, through her lawyers, reiterated her commitment to full cooperation, describing the process as part of her civic responsibility and advocacy for transparency and accountability.

“She remains confident that her cooperation will positively contribute to the Commission’s efforts,” the statement added.

The EFCC has yet to issue an official comment on the matter as of press time.
