A group of concerned Ogun State indigenes in the diaspora have issued a strong appeal to political stakeholders and citizens to rally behind the most competent and morally upright candidate in the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial election, irrespective of political affiliation.

In a statement titled “A Call for a Collective Support Towards the Best Candidate for Governor of Ogun State in 2027,” signed by prominent sons of the state, the group emphasised the need for a departure from politics driven by sentiment, sectionalism, or party loyalty.

The statement, jointly signed by Akogun Deji Taiwo (Ogun Central), Prince Sola Olabode (Ogun West), and Barrister Kayode Sunmola, FCA (Ogun East), stressed that the future of the state depends on the emergence of a visionary leader with integrity, experience, and a strong commitment to inclusive governance.

“Ogun State is blessed with immense potential—rich in human capital, culture, and resources. However, the fulfilment of that potential hinges significantly on the quality of leadership at the helm,” the statement read.

The group, under the banner “Ogun State Indigenes in the Diaspora”, called on political actors across party lines to eschew violence and act as responsible gatekeepers of democracy by supporting credible and capable candidates.

They urged the people of Ogun State to unite in patriotism and common good, warning that history would not be kind to those who fail to act conscientiously at this critical moment.

“Let us make a collective decision that prioritises progress, peace, and prosperity for all citizens of Ogun State,” the statement added.

The communique was issued from Knightdale, North Carolina, USA, where the group is headquartered, with contact details provided for further engagement.

The 2027 governorship election in Ogun State is already generating early interest across political circles, and observers believe the role of diaspora voices may play a significant part in shaping the political narrative leading up to the polls.
