Osun NSCDC Seals Unregistered Home for Disabled Children In Osogbo

The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Tuesday sealed an illegal children’s care facility in Osogbo over allegations of poor welfare and non-registration with appropriate authorities.

A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, disclosed that the home, operated by a private individual whose identity was withheld, was shut on the directive of the State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, after investigations revealed gross neglect and lack of facilities to care for children with disabilities.

Speaking during the operation, Deputy Commandant of Corps, Oluwafemi Abeere, explained that the raid was carried out after a tip-off from members of the public.

“Upon arrival, it was evident that the children were malnourished,” he said.

“Further checks revealed that the facility was not registered with any relevant regulatory authority, which raised serious concerns about the well-being and safety of the children.”

The command noted that efforts to reunite the affected children with their parents and guardians have so far proven abortive.

“Despite several attempts, the parents have refused to come forward.

“Findings showed they had abandoned the children with the caregiver and stopped making payments. They are now unreachable,” the statement added.

The NSCDC also revealed that it had contacted the Osun State Bureau for Persons with Disabilities to intervene and take necessary action regarding the care and relocation of the children.

While expressing dismay at the plight of the children, Commandant Sotiyo urged parents and guardians to properly vet any care facility before entrusting their wards to such institutions.

He assured that the Corps would continue to collaborate with stakeholders to safeguard vulnerable populations in the state.
