Akinlade’s Exit: Ogun PDP Labels Former Deputy Gov Candidate a ‘Political Judas,’ Declares Party Unshaken

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially confirmed the resignation of Hon. Abdulkabir Akinlade from the party, branding the former deputy governorship candidate a “drowned mercenary” whose exit amounts to no loss for the party.

In a  statement issued on Monday,  by Otunba Arc. Kayode Adebayo, the party’s Publicity Secretary, the PDP described Akinlade’s departure as the formalisation of a long-standing “unholy romance” with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The statement condemned Akinlade for what it called “sustained acts of sabotage” against the PDP since joining in 2022, accusing him of covertly supporting the APC during the 2023 gubernatorial elections — an assertion backed by the party’s poor showing in his home local government, Ipokia, despite massive resources deployed.

“Akinlade’s political journey is riddled with blemishes, betrayal, and disloyalty. He abandoned the PDP cause shortly after joining and has been working tirelessly with ‘diabolic’ elements to undermine the party’s unity and progress,” the statement read.

The PDP asserted that Akinlade’s resignation followed the failure of legal challenges against the election outcome, characterising his exit as a desperate move to cling to relevance amid lost credibility.

“Every association has its Judas. For us, Akinlade has been that Judas — a political liability whose antics almost compromised our collective interests.

“We are grateful that he has finally found the courage to publicly formalise his alliance with the APC,” Adebayo said.

Refuting Akinlade’s claims of ill-treatment and structural exclusion within the party as “laughable excuses of a robber caught pants down,” the PDP urged other disgruntled members aligned with him to “hasten their political voyage to perdition.”

The party emphasised that it remains on a “renaissance path,” determined to restore its dominance in Ogun State.

It assured its 236 political wards that “no traitor, no mercenary” could derail the PDP’s unity and resolve.

“We have lost absolutely nothing,” the statement stressed, adding that the PDP’s mission to partner with the people of Ogun against the APC’s “callous irresponsibility and incompetence” remains unshaken.
