The United States Government has expressed deep concern over the rising spate of insecurity across several Nigerian states, urging President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly in addressing the growing threats posed by criminal elements and terrorist groups.

In a statement posted on Wednesday via its official handle on (formerly Twitter), the US Embassy in Nigeria condemned recent violent attacks and called on the Federal Government to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Embassy noted that incidents of violence have been particularly severe in Plateau, Benue, Borno and Imo States, where communities continue to face unrelenting attacks by armed groups.

“The United States Embassy in Nigeria is deeply saddened by and condemns recent acts of violence in Borno, in Imo, and most recently in Benue and Plateau.

The ongoing threats faced by communities and community leaders in Nigeria are deeply troubling,” the statement read.

The US further extended its condolences to families and communities affected by the surge in violence, which has claimed dozens of lives in recent weeks.

It also pressed for credible investigations to ensure that those behind the attacks are held accountable.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by these senseless acts. We look to Nigerian authorities to conduct thorough investigations to hold those responsible accountable,” the Embassy said.

Reiterating its commitment to supporting Nigeria in its fight against insecurity, the United States pledged to stand with the country in efforts to promote peace, safeguard human rights, and enhance national security.

“The United States stands with Nigeria in its efforts to promote peace, security, and respect for human rights across the country,” it added.

The call comes amid growing domestic pressure on President Tinubu’s administration to overhaul the nation’s security architecture, following repeated attacks by insurgents, bandits, and other non-state actors across various regions.
