Two goals from Raheedat Ajibade ensured the Super Falcons of Nigeria dominated the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in a friendly encounter.

The match held during a light shower on Tuesday evening at the renovated main bowl of the MKO Abiola International Stadium (now MKO Abiola sports Arena) saw the falcons triumph by 2-0.

Falcons skipper Ajibade put the host in the lead from the penalty spot in the 28th minute.

She doubled the lead shortly before half time courtesy of an assist by Rinsola Babajide in the 43rd minutes

Chiamaka Nnadozie’s heroics at the goal post didn’t go on notice as she denied the visitors a goal few minutes before stoppage time.

The match was part of falcons preparation in quest for 10th WAFCON next month in Morocco having reigned as nine-time African champions.

Coach Justine Madugu in a post match conference said the victory is a good psychological boost for his squad as they continue preparations for the 13th Women AFCON taking place in Morocco, 5th – 26th July.

He added that despite the victory, the Super Falcons is still a work in progress.

Speaking on his brace, Skipper Ajibade said the important thing is to play and score goals.

She added that when given the opportunity, it is important to utilize it and that’s what she has done and any member of the team is capable of doing same.

On his part, the Cameroonian coach, Jean Baptiste blame the loss on selection of a new team who ate just playing together. He acknowledged that the falcons came out stronger and deserved the win.

Nigeria will be aiming for a 10th triumph in the competition, having won
the trophy nine times since it was launched as a tournament in 1998.

The Super Falcons also won in 1991 and 1995, when it was staged only as
home-and-away FIFA World Cup qualifying games.
