119 Osun NYSC Members Face Service Year Extension For Misconduct

No fewer than 119 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Osun State have been sanctioned with a repeat of their service year over various infractions that contravened the rules of the scheme.

This was disclosed by the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Agbor Obim, during the low-key passing-out ceremony for the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 corps members held across the state on Tuesday.

According to Obim, a total of 2,057 corps members successfully completed their service year.

However, 86 others were handed service year extensions, while 33 were declared as absconders for misconduct and breach of NYSC bye-laws.

Speaking at the Olorunda Local Government Area distribution centre, the coordinator emphasised the importance of discipline among corps members, cautioning them against night travel and advising them to use only designated motor parks. He also warned against wearing the NYSC uniform while traveling for safety reasons.

“We thank the Almighty for guiding our corps members through their service year, and commend them for their meaningful contributions across the state,” he said.

At the Osogbo Local Government Area, Deputy Director of Mobilisation and Certification, Southwest Area Office 1, Mr Oyebade Babatunde, urged the outgoing corps members to uphold the values of honesty, hard work, and national service.

He encouraged them to build on skills acquired through the NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme and avoid shortcuts to success.

“Let your choices reflect the ideals of the NYSC scheme — nation building, integrity, and service to humanity,” he added.
