The Kebbi State government has taken delivery of two million doses of vaccines from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, NPHCDA, for mass immunisation against the re-emergence of polio variants in parts of the state.

The State Health Promotion Officer, Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Mallam Yusuf Umar Sauwa, at a media parley in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, said the exercise will cover children under five years to immediately curb the transmission of the variant virus.

He said, “Recently, it was ascertained that there’s circulation of polio variants, which makes it obligatory for us to take immediate steps to stop its circulation”.

He added that the state government was doing the needful to ensure the provision of material support, staffing and logistics towards quality coverage in all communities, towns and villages.

“Our vaccines are booster vaccines, adequate, effective, safe, with necessary potency to interrupt the transmission”, he said.

The state health promotion officer said for now there’s zero case of affliction throughout the state but they will carryout mass vaccination campaign to the affected communities such as Jega, Koko, Gwandu and others to curb its circulation.
