The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC), Nigeria, has strongly condemned the continued killings in Benue State, describing the bloodshed as a national disgrace that demands urgent and decisive intervention.
In a statement issued on Monday by its Executive Chairman, Disu Kamor, the organisation expressed outrage over what it called “the mindless slaughter of innocent men, women, and children” in the state, warning that Nigeria is fast losing its humanity in the face of persistent violence.
“The killings in Benue are not just a regional tragedy,” the statement read. “They are a stain on the soul of Nigeria, and a national shame that should shake every person of conscience to the core.”
MPAC accused both the Federal and Benue State governments, as well as security agencies, of doing little beyond issuing routine condemnations and condolences.
The group said it was unacceptable that Nigerians continue to live under the constant threat of violence and impunity.
“No community, no family, no individual should ever have to live under the constant shadow of violence, impunity, and abandonment,” Kamor said.
“What is happening in Benue is not merely an assault on those killed or left to mourn their dead. It is an assault on our shared humanity, our unity, and our collective future.”
The group called for bold, coordinated, and intelligence-led efforts to stop the killings, insisting that the time for rhetoric is over.
“Nigeria must not continue to be a country where human life is cheapened by repeated failures of governance and security,” MPAC warned. “Enough of the rhetoric. The time for action is now.”
MPAC also urged religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, and Nigerians of goodwill to rise against the continued carnage, stating that silence and indifference only serve to embolden perpetrators.
“We stand in solidarity with the government and good people of Benue State in this hour of pain,” the statement added. “We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Kamor concluded by urging Nigerian leaders to act with justice, compassion, and urgency, warning that “Nigeria must not stand idly by while the blood of the innocent flows.”
