The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), on Wednesday disclosed that 148 Nigerian migrants who had been stranded in the Niger Republic voluntarily returned to Nigeria.
A statement by the Kano State coordinator of the commission, Mrs Lubah Liman, revealed that the return of the Nigerian refugees was jointly organised by the Nigerian Mission in Niamey and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
“The expected Niger Republic flight landed at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) at exactly 1:35pm with a total of 148 migrant returnees and 2 escorts; 1 medical and 1 operational staff escort, thereby making the total of 150 passengers in the chartered flight FML 6001 Aircraft,” the statement said.

The statement also emphasised on the federal government’s commitment to reintegrating the returnees into various government programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Officials from NCFRMI and the Nigerian NIS profiled the returnees upon arrival, while representatives from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Department of State Security (DSS), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Kano State Emergency Management Agency among others were on hand to provide additional support and assistance, according to the statement.
The statement gave the breakdown of the returnees as 69 adult males, 33 adult females, 16 male children, 17 female children, 6 female infants and 7 male infants.
