A  final-year student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, Arobo Precious, has been found dead in a bush near his residence, in what police have described as a suspected case of suicide.

The 27-year-old, a Higher National Diploma II student, was discovered hanging from a tree with a rope around his neck, days after he reportedly shared a distressing video on social media hinting at emotional turmoil.

The tragic discovery was made on June 18, 2025, and later confirmed by the Ondo State Police Command.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Alayande, the incident was reported to the B Division Police Station in Owo at about 10:00 p.m.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer led a team of detectives to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of a young man, aged about 27 years, hanging with a rope believed to have been used in committing suicide,” Alayande stated.

He added that the body was immediately evacuated and deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for preservation and autopsy.

Sources close to the deceased revealed that Precious had been battling emotional trauma, reportedly linked to a failed romantic relationship.

He is said to have posted a video shortly before his death with a caption that strongly suggested he was overwhelmed by distress.

The Polytechnic community has been thrown into mourning as students and staff grapple with the news of the loss.

Many have taken to social media to express shock and sorrow, while calling for greater attention to mental health issues among youths, especially students facing academic and emotional pressure.

The institution is yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
