How ‘Kidnapper’ Was Arrested After Abuja Victim Identified Him In Broad Daylight

A suspected member of a kidnap gang that abducted two herders and a driver near the Daku community in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been arrested after one of his victims spotted him at a popular cattle market in Niger State.

The dramatic arrest occurred on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Izom Cattle Market in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.

The suspect, who had gone to the market wearing a clean kaftan and posing as a buyer, was recognized by one of the victims abducted earlier this month.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the victims were kidnapped on June 9, 2025, while returning from Izom market where they had sold their cows.

They were attacked a few kilometers away from Daku community in Gwagwalada, and held captive by armed men who later collected a ransom of N15 million before releasing them.

According to a member of the local vigilante group, Ishaku Daniel, the victim raised the alarm upon sighting the suspect, prompting a swift response from the vigilantes who were present in the market.

Daniel said, “We immediately mobilized and apprehended him before the crowd could take the law into their hands. He was carrying a sack containing packets of cigarettes, tramadol, cough syrup, and Indian hemp.”

He added that the suspect was subsequently handed over to security operatives from Lambata, Niger State, to prevent mob action and ensure proper investigation.

A security source who confirmed the arrest said the suspect has already confessed to being part of the kidnapping gang and is currently in custody, assisting investigators with information to track down other members of the syndicate.

Efforts to get a response from the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, were unsuccessful, as his phone line was unreachable at the time of filing this report.
