The Gombe State Executive Council has approved the sum of N21.247 billion for the construction of an 8.5 kilometre bypass road in the northern part of the Gombe metropolis.
The state’s Commissioner of Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Usman Maijama’a Kallamu revealed this to newsmen at the end of the state executive council held yesterday at the Government House, Gombe.
He said the council presided over by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya approved N21,247,365,400.25 for the construction of Phase I of the bypass road, which will start from Kano Road bypass, through the Agro-Livestock Industrial Zone and connect with the Gombe-Kwadon Road on the eastern part of the metropolis.

The commissioner said the memo was presented and approved by the council, adding that upon completion, the Northern Bypass Road would reduce traffic on the axis and ease the transportation of goods and services.
Engr. Kallamu added that the project has a completion period of 18 months.
On his part, the Commissioner of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, Dr Barnabas Malle, said the council has approved the procurement of 10,000 metric tons of fertiliser for wet season farming.
He said the fertiliser, which is equivalent to 200,000 bags, will be sold to farmers at a subsidised rate.
Also, the Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development, Muhammad Gambo Magaji, said the council has approved the sum of N6.5 billion for the payment of gratuity to civil servants who retired from the state civil service in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
“The sum of 1.9 billion was earmarked for civil servants that retired in 2021, the sum of N2.2 billion for the 2022 retirees and the sum of N2.3 billion for those that retired from the civil service in 2023,” Magaji said.
