The national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), on Thursday, threatened that it would embark on a nationwide strike over the withheld local government funds in Osun State.
The union said the state actors have taken over local government allocations in the state, saying they are now “creating an atmosphere of discord, throwing clogs in the wheel of its progress.”
Daily Trust reports that since February this year, Osun State has been witnessing different face-offs regarding the administration of the third tier of the government following a controversial court of appeal judgment.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the President-General of the union, Aliyu Kankara, said NULGE is embarrassed by what he described as “a surreptitious move to supplant extant law and place the running of the accounts of Osun State local governments in the hands of impostors who are not recognised by the law.”
Meanwhile, the Osun State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have disagreed on the latest verdict of the Court of Appeal on the tenure validity of the local government chairmen in the state.
The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, had on June 13 dismissed APC’s appeal seeking to reinstate local government chairmen and councillors elected in the February local government elections, and upheld the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, in a statement by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, said the court’s ruling has finally reaffirmed the truth about the legality of the validly elected and sworn-in PDP chairmen and councillors following the court sacking of APC chairmen in 2022.
However, the APC said only the Supreme Court can invalidate the February 10, 2025, appeal court verdict that reinstated its members.
A statement by the party through its state legal officer, Chief Adegoke Ogunsola warned the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke and PDP against inciting the public and court against the reinstated executives.
He said there was a mischief by the state government after the Court of Appeal on June 13, refused to relist the appeal of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and the APC.
