The Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Adejumoke Oluwatoyin Adewole, has been appointed as a Judge of the Ogun State High Court — a development the Ministry has described as a major breakthrough for women in governance and justice delivery.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that Adewole’s appointment was confirmed following the National Judicial Council’s (NJC) 109th meeting held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
She was named among three individuals recommended for elevation to the High Court Bench in Ogun State.
Reacting to the announcement, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, praised the NJC for upholding a transparent selection process and for recognising what she called Adewole’s “unwavering dedication, strong character, and outstanding service record.”
“This is a proud moment for us, not just as a Ministry, but as advocates of gender equity and quality leadership.
“Mrs. Adewole’s appointment shows that commitment and professionalism are still rewarded in public service,” Adeleye said in a statement issued in Abeokuta.
The Commissioner noted that Adewole’s elevation is a validation of her remarkable contributions to the civil service and her leadership in advancing gender-focused policies and social development in the state.
“She has transformed the Ministry with her vision, discipline, and strategic approach to inclusiveness and institutional growth. Her appointment sends a strong signal to women across the service that excellence cannot be ignored,” she added.
Describing Adewole as a “bridge-builder” and a “symbol of integrity,” Adeleye said the Ministry is confident she will bring the same commitment to justice and fairness in her new judicial role.
Adewole is expected to assume her new position in the coming weeks, joining a growing list of women making significant strides in Nigeria’s judiciary.
Her appointment is seen as a win for both the civil service and gender representation in key public institutions.
