The Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Plc, Mr. Mokhtar Bounour, has called for stronger collaboration, innovative solutions, and policy support to accelerate sustainable development in Nigeria’s electricity sector.

Bounour made the call while speaking at the Shell Power Conference 2025 held in Ikeja, Lagos, with the theme “Powering Nigeria’s Energy Future: Bridging the Gap Between Ambition and Action.”

Addressing a gathering of key stakeholders, policymakers, and industry leaders, Bounour emphasised that Nigeria’s energy future depends on unified efforts and bold action to overcome persistent challenges in power generation and distribution.

“While compliance with health and safety standards is paramount, our real goal is to ensure reliable and adequate electricity supply that powers critical institutions like industries, hospitals, schools, and homes,” he said.

According to Bounour, a coordinated push involving stakeholders across the value chain—from generation to transmission and distribution—will be pivotal in transforming the electricity landscape.

“Our collective action will unlock transformative investments, improve liquidity, and fast-track the adoption of cutting-edge technologies. These are key to achieving operational excellence and meeting Nigeria’s energy demand,” he added.

The Egbin Power boss further underscored the role of innovation and efficiency, noting that strategic partnerships are vital to addressing bottlenecks in the sector.

He described the current challenges as “real,” but said the sector’s collective resolve to drive change is even stronger.

“We are fully committed to building a sustainable energy ecosystem. The future of Nigeria’s electricity sector is not a dream—it is a mission. Together, we must power it,” Bounour asserted.

He also reiterated Egbin Power’s continued investment in system upgrades and innovative infrastructure, affirming the company’s readiness to collaborate across the value chain and with regulators.

The Shell Power Conference concluded with a strong call to action for all stakeholders to align their ambitions with tangible strategies aimed at creating a resilient, inclusive, and forward-thinking energy future for Nigeria.

The event featured high-level discussions, policy-focused presentations, and networking sessions tailored to forge actionable pathways toward reliable energy delivery in the country.
