Osun PDP Vows Loyalty To Adeleke Amid Defection Rumours

As speculations intensify over a possible defection by Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the state has declared unwavering loyalty to the governor, stating that it will follow him wherever he goes.

The governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, following a high-level caucus meeting held on Thursday in Osogbo, the state capital.

Rasheed said the PDP leaders passed a vote of confidence in Governor Adeleke, praising his leadership style and track record since assuming office.

The caucus, according to him, urged the governor to continue broad-based consultations with key stakeholders at both state and national levels before deciding his next political move.

“The caucus resolved to stand with Governor Adeleke and follow him wherever he chooses to go. However, we recognize that consultations are ongoing,” the statement read in part.

The meeting, held at the Government House in Osogbo, was attended by a wide spectrum of the party’s power bloc, including members of the National and State Assemblies, State Executive Council members, party executives, the Elders Caucus, ALGON leadership, and the Special Advisers’ Forum.

The endorsement comes amidst growing political tension in Osun, triggered by Governor Adeleke’s absence at the South-West PDP caucus meeting held on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo State. His non-attendance, alongside key Osun PDP figures, has further fueled suspicions of his impending defection.

Adding to the speculation is the governor’s private meeting with President Bola Tinubu last month at the latter’s residence in Ikoyi, Lagos — a development that political analysts interpret as a strategic realignment move.

Although Governor Adeleke has yet to make any public statement about the defection rumours, sources within the party hinted that his recent body language suggests a major political decision is looming ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
