    …Sends Shettima To London

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday evening officially announced the death of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London following a prolonged illness.

According to a State House statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Buhari died at about 4:30 p.m. on July 13, 2025.

In a swift response to the development, President Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to immediately travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the late president’s remains back to Nigeria for burial.

The president also spoke with the widow of the deceased, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, and extended his deepest condolences to her and the entire family.

“To honour the former president’s memory, President Tinubu has directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast across the country,” the statement read.

Muhammadu Buhari was a two-term democratically elected president, serving from 2015 to 2023. Prior to his civilian presidency, he ruled Nigeria as a military head of state between January 1984 and August 1985.

His death marks the end of a significant chapter in Nigeria’s political history, spanning nearly four decades of influence in both military and civilian leadership.

Details regarding funeral arrangements are expected in the coming days.
