The League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State has joined millions of Nigerians and the global Muslim community in mourning the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing him as a leader who embodied courage, discipline, and unwavering patriotism.
In a condolence message signed by its Secretary General, Alhaji Tajudeen Mustapha Adewunmi, the League extended its sympathies to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Executive Council, members of the National Assembly, and the entire Nigerian populace over the passing of the former leader.
Buhari, who died at 82, was praised for his lifelong commitment to national unity, security, economic growth, and the fight against corruption. “His leadership inspired hope in millions, particularly in upholding the principles of accountability and selfless service,” the League said.
The clerics highlighted Buhari’s strong Islamic faith, describing him as “a devoted Muslim who upheld Islamic values of honesty, modesty, and fear of Allah both in public and private life.” They noted that his legacy would remain a guiding light for future generations.
“In times of national adversity, Buhari stood firm. His passion for the welfare of the common man and his resilience in navigating Nigeria’s most pressing challenges will not be forgotten,” the statement read.
The League urged all Muslims to offer special prayers for the former President during the Jumat service on Friday, July 17, 2025, as directed by the President-General, Shaykh Sikirullahi Babalola.
“We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, and grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus,” the group stated.
They also called for unity and calm among citizens as the country reflects on the life and contributions of the late statesman. “We urge all Nigerians to remain peaceful, prayerful, and united as we honour a leader who gave his best to the service of our nation,” the League added.
The Muslim body further assured the Nigerian government and people of their continued prayers and support in this moment of national grief.
