The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Kayode Oluwaseunfunmi, for allegedly impregnating his 14-year-old daughter in Oluyole Local Government Area of Ibadan.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the shocking incident came to light after concerned individuals rescued the teenage girl and alerted a journalist, who promptly reported the matter to the police.
The suspect was subsequently apprehended and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, while the survivor—whose identity is being withheld due to legal and ethical considerations—has been taken into protective custody at an orphanage.
Sources revealed that the abuse began in December 2024. Now seven months pregnant, the minor disclosed that her father became their sole guardian following the death of their mother ten years ago.
“I never wanted this to happen,” the teenager said in an emotional statement. “My father has always been my protector since our mother passed away. Despite what he did, I still love him deeply. It’s hard to reconcile the person I know with the actions that have hurt me.”
She also lamented her inability to participate in her Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 examinations due to the pregnancy.
Despite the gravity of the offence, she appealed to authorities not to punish her father harshly, citing their difficult family situation and her younger siblings’ dependence on him.
“I just wish things could go back to the way they were before all of this. My father made a terrible mistake, but I believe there’s a way to heal without completely destroying our family,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion has stepped into the matter, pledging to ensure that the victim receives adequate rehabilitation and that justice is served.
A top official of the ministry, who confirmed the arrest, said efforts are underway to support the survivor and protect her future.
The police have assured the public that thorough investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will face appropriate legal consequences if found guilty.
