The Ogun State Government has recruited 550 new officers into the Amotekun Corps as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, disclosed this on Thursday during the passing-out parade of the new recruits (Batch E) at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sagamu.
A statement jointly issued by information Officers from the office of the deputy governor, Idongesit Jonah and Temitayo Taylor, stated that the governor said the recruitment is a continuation of the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the state, adding that 690 officers had earlier been recruited six months ago.
“This marks another milestone in our efforts to ensure safety in Ogun State. We are building a peaceful and secure environment that allows our people to live and thrive,” Abiodun said.
He explained that the Amotekun Corps was set up to complement federal security agencies using community intelligence and trust, which has proven effective in tackling insecurity.
Abiodun congratulated the new officers and urged them to be committed to their duties, noting that they would be strategically deployed across the state.
Also speaking at the event, the Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd), thanked the state government for its continuous support and for approving the recruitment of 1,500 new operatives, with 550 now fully trained.
He noted that Amotekun’s operations in areas like J4 have helped reduce criminal activities and supported the state’s economic growth.
Adedigba urged the new officers to work as a team and carry out their responsibilities with diligence and integrity.
