The father of a 19-year-old undergraduate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Andrel Eloho Okah, has recounted the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the abduction, rape and murder of his daughter by suspected kidnappers in Ekiti State.
Andrel, a 300-level student of the Department of Mass Communication, went missing on June 20, 2025, and was later found dead by farmers in Ode, Ekiti State, after being allegedly raped and murdered by her abductors.
Speaking in an emotion-laden interview with The Punch, her father, Prince Vincent Okah, a cleric and businessman, described his daughter as a “reserved, intelligent, and focused” young lady who had promised to make her family proud.
Okah, who is also a contractor to Dangote Fertiliser and Refinery, said his daughter, also known as Annie Vincent, was last heard from on June 20, when she spoke with her mother.
Two days later, when her twin brother couldn’t reach her, the family became alarmed and launched a frantic search.
“I was in church leading prayers when my wife called that Annie’s twin brother couldn’t reach her,” Okah said.
“I left Lagos immediately and went to Akungba. I wasn’t satisfied with how the police there handled the case, so I moved it to Akure, and that’s when the investigation gained real momentum.”
According to him, the police discovered that Annie was abducted alongside a male friend, John Abba, by gunmen who later killed her in a remote part of Ode, Ekiti.
He revealed that her body was dumped by the roadside and later discovered by farmers, who alerted local authorities.
According to him, her corpse was taken to the mortuary before police from Akure identified it following confessions from arrested suspects.
He added, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ondo State Police Command traced the crime to Lagos after tracking a mobile phone belonging to the male victim, which had been sold.
The chain of transactions eventually led to the arrest of the suspects, who reportedly confessed to the crimes and led police to the crime scene.
“The suspects said they had taken John Abba to the Kogi axis and shot him. His body hasn’t been found yet,” Okah disclosed. “But they showed the police where they dumped my daughter after raping and killing her.”
He said evidence found in Abba’s room, including his daughter’s phone and charger, suggested that the two were together before they were kidnapped. However, Annie’s family insists she would never have left without informing someone.
“My daughter never went anywhere without telling us. That’s why her belongings being found in John’s room remains a mystery,” the grieving father said.
On ransom demands, Okah revealed that after her disappearance, he received multiple calls from anonymous individuals who claimed Annie was unconscious.
He eventually paid N210,000 to two separate callers who demanded N300,000. However, he never got to speak with his daughter, and the calls ceased following arrests.
He also accused the landlord of John Abba of being complicit in the crime, alleging that he planned the attack that led to the double abduction.
“It was John’s landlord who allegedly conspired with the criminals. Annie just happened to be with John at the wrong time,” he said. “Now she’s dead, and John is missing.”
Okah called for the prosecution of the suspects without delay, saying the judicial process must not be dragged unnecessarily. He vowed to petition the state government and demanded that the house of the landlord allegedly involved in the crime be demolished.
“Justice must be served. The suspects have confessed. We don’t want adjournments every three months. I’ll write to the governor,” he said. “I’ve told the students to stay calm, but they’re angry. We want justice—not just for Annie, but for every other innocent soul.”
Despite the trauma, Okah said the family has remained strong in their Christian faith, adding that plans are underway to give Annie a dignified burial.
“We are broken, but we draw strength from God. We’re doing everything to give her a befitting farewell. She didn’t deserve this end,” he concluded.
