Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, Lagos, over alleged trafficking of nearly one tonne of cannabis from Ghana into Nigeria.
Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, was apprehended on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the church’s premises on Ogombo Road, Okun Ajah, Lekki, after months on the run. NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement that operatives waited for the evening service to end before moving in on the clergyman.
The arrest followed two earlier seizures of “Ghana Loud” — a potent strain of cannabis — allegedly linked to the pastor.
The first bust occurred on June 4 at Okun Ajah beach where 200kg was recovered, while another 700kg was intercepted from his delivery van on July 6.
Babafemi disclosed that the suspect confessed to moving the drugs through waterways from Ghana and fleeing abroad to evade arrest after twice escaping NDLEA operatives.
The NDLEA also carried out other raids last week. In Lagos, officers arrested one Benjamin Udo Ukoh at an Ikoyi apartment with 15.63kg of Canadian Loud.
In Nasarawa, three men were caught with 3,093kg of skunk, while in Kano, suspects were found with 359kg of skunk, 9kg of Colorado, 20,000 tramadol pills and 200 diazepam ampoules.
Similar seizures were made in Gombe, Yobe, and Edo states, including hundreds of thousands of tramadol capsules, pentazocine injections and other opioids.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), commended the Lagos, Nasarawa, Gombe, Kano and Edo Commands for their “dexterity” and urged them to sustain the agency’s balanced drug control strategy, combining enforcement with public enlightenment under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) programme.
