Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger recently in the news over an altercation with a flight attendant, has dismissed reports that she filed a N500 billion lawsuit against the Federal Government and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
Emmanson, who was arraigned earlier this year for allegedly attacking a purser on an Ibom Air flight, described the viral reports of a lawsuit as “false and misleading.”
Taking to her Instagram story on Saturday, she clarified that while she has not yet instituted any legal action, she would personally inform the public whenever she decides to do so.
“I have not taken any such legal action yet. When I eventually do anything of such nature (which is imminent), I will personally update the public myself via my official page,” she wrote.
The controversy around Emmanson began on a Uyo-to-Lagos flight when she reportedly refused to switch off her mobile phone during a safety announcement and allegedly assaulted a purser.
Following the incident, Ibom Air pressed charges against her, and the Airline Operators of Nigeria banned her from flying with any domestic carrier — a ban that was later lifted.
On August 13, after consultations led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, the police formally withdrew the case in court. The judge approved the withdrawal, effectively discharging Emmanson of all charges.
Her denial of the multi-billion naira lawsuit comes amid speculations that she was preparing to seek redress against the government and regulators over the handling of her case.
