A senior lecturer at the University of Lagos, Dr. Samuel Ojogbo, is under investigation following allegations that he sexually assaulted a 20-year-old undergraduate student in his office.
The incident, according to a police report, allegedly occurred on August 22, 2025, around midday, when the victim, a 300-level student, visited the lecturer’s office.
She claimed that Ojogbo forcefully violated her, after which she was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The student lodged a formal complaint with the police on August 28, prompting an official investigation into the case.
Confirming the development, the management of UNILAG said the matter had been reported to law enforcement agencies and that the institution was taking internal measures.
The Head of the University’s Communication Unit, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, disclosed that the school had constituted an investigative panel to review the allegations while also providing counselling and support to the affected student through its Safeguarding Centre.
“The University of Lagos remains committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students. A thorough investigation will be carried out, and justice will be ensured,” Alaga-Ibraheem said.
She further encouraged students and staff to report any cases of harassment or misconduct through the institution’s official channels, stressing that UNILAG maintains a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, though no arrest has been formally announced as of press time.
The case has sparked fresh debates around sexual harassment in Nigerian tertiary institutions, with calls for stricter enforcement of policies that protect students from abuse by lecturers.
