The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has strengthened professional banking education in Nigeria with the commissioning of the Bankers Hall at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.
The 160-seater, fully digitalised facility—an endowment project of the institute—was unveiled on August 28 at the university’s main campus during a ceremony attended by top dignitaries.
Notable guests at the event included the Ogun State Commissioner for Transport, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo; CIBN President, Prof. Pius Olanrewaju; the institute’s second Vice President, Mrs. Mojisola Bakare-Asieru; Registrar/CEO, Mr. Akin Morakinyo, as well as the Olofin of Ilishan, Oba Mojeed Sonuga.
Speaking at the commissioning, Prof. Olanrewaju described the project as a “game-changer” that will shape the future of banking professionals in Nigeria.
“By providing a facility that is accessible to all, we are opening doors for young people, women, and underrepresented groups to receive high-quality training in an environment designed to foster effective learning,” he said.
The CIBN President emphasised that the hall will serve as a hub where ideas are cultivated, skills are sharpened, and future leaders are prepared to thrive in the fast-changing financial sector.
He further noted that Babcock University occupies a “distinct position” as the first private university in Nigeria to embrace the CIBN linkage programme.
In his remarks, Babcock University’s President/Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ademola Tayo, lauded the institute for its support, stressing that the collaboration had promoted financial literacy, professional growth, and infrastructural development on the campus.
Also, CIBN Registrar/CEO, Mr. Morakinyo, reaffirmed that the initiative reflects the institute’s commitment to education, excellence, and professionalism in the banking industry.
The Olofin of Ilishan, Oba Sonuga, hailed the endowment, describing it as a welcome development that would not only benefit the university but also enhance growth in the host community.
