Troops of the Nigerian Army have intensified their crackdown on terrorists and criminal gangs across the country, arresting no fewer than 25 suspects and rescuing 16 hostages in a series of coordinated operations.
Military sources told PLATFORM TIMES on Thursday that the sustained offensive, carried out in multiple states, also led to the neutralisation of several insurgents and the recovery of arms, ammunition, explosives, and logistics supplies.
In the North-East, troops engaged Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram fighters in Borno and Adamawa states.
The encounters in Kolori and Karumi, Konduga Local Government Area, and Madagali resulted in the deaths of several insurgents.
A suspected logistics supplier was arrested in Mafa with 23 containers of petrol concealed in a bag, while soldiers in Mubi North intercepted smuggled petrol and fertilisers meant for terrorists.
In Garkida, troops apprehended a terrorist who confessed to taking part in previous attacks in Damboa, while weapons recovered included one M70AB2 rifle, four magazines, and 150 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
The military also recorded breakthroughs in the North-West, where troops of 1 Brigade foiled multiple terrorist attempts in Zamfara State, rescuing six victims and seizing motorcycles. Similarly, in Kaduna, a notorious kidnap kingpin was arrested in Mayir Village, Sanga Local Government Area.
In the North-Central, Operation Whirl Stroke operatives neutralised a violent extremist in Katsina-Ala, Benue State, while rescuing 10 passengers kidnapped along the Kyado–Wukari road.
Troops also rescued three kidnap victims near Eruku Town in Kwara State and arrested suspects conveying illicit drugs in Nasarawa.
The operations extended to the South-East and South-South, where troops foiled activities of IPOB/ESN in Anambra State, safely disposing of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) recovered after criminals fled.
In Imo, two cultists were arrested with a pistol, phones, and a motorcycle. In Delta and Bayelsa, security operatives recovered firearms and arrested multiple drug dealers in joint raids with the NDLEA.
In Rivers and Bayelsa, troops impounded more than 1,200 litres of illegally refined petroleum products under Operation DELTA SAFE. Nineteen suspects were also arrested for drug-related offences.
Overall, the army recovered a cache of weapons and logistics, including rifles, ammunition, double-barrel guns, cartridges, IED components, motorcycles, petroleum products, fertilisers, and illicit drugs.
Military authorities said the sustained pressure on criminal elements was yielding results and vowed that the momentum would be maintained until peace is restored nationwide.
