A Chinese power generation company, CCETC, has announced plans to establish a power plant and an industrial park in Ogun State, in what is being described as a major boost to the state’s industrialisation drive.
Chairman of the company, Mr. Guo Xianda, disclosed this at the weekend during a strategic meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun and top government officials at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Xianda revealed that the firm would install a 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, free of charge, to accelerate economic activities at the facility and its environs.
The development follows Governor Abiodun’s recent investment mission to China, where he led a delegation to engage international investors in sectors such as technology, energy, and manufacturing.
Xianda explained that CCETC, which is based in Jiangsu, China, already has a strong presence in Nigeria with over 250MW worth of projects in operation, and a total global distribution capacity of more than 5,000MW.
He said the company’s interest in Ogun State cuts across three critical areas: power generation and distribution; investment in a dedicated state transmission network; and establishment of an industrial park to host Chinese manufacturers and other investors.
“Our plan is to contribute to Ogun State’s development by strengthening its energy infrastructure while creating an industrial hub that will attract manufacturers from China and beyond,” Xianda stated.
Governor Abiodun, in his response, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a strategic investment that aligns with his administration’s vision of positioning Ogun as Nigeria’s industrial capital.
“The company will strategically focus on three areas—strengthening power generation and distribution in the state, investing in transmission infrastructure, and setting up an industrial park that will integrate energy projects with manufacturing clusters,” the governor said.
Abiodun further disclosed that his administration would take the CCETC team on an inspection tour of ongoing power projects, including those being executed by Sahara Group and Powergen, as part of efforts to ensure reliable electricity supply across the state.
The governor added that Ogun was determined to leverage such partnerships to improve power supply, attract more investors, and create jobs for its residents.
