The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the arrest of a notorious terror leader, Ifeanyi Eze, popularly known as Gentle De Yahoo, in Imo State.
The military disclosed that the suspect, who claims to be a Biafra agitator, had long been on its wanted list over a series of violent attacks in Okigwe Local Government Area and its environs.
According to the Defence Headquarters, Eze’s capture marks a major breakthrough in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the South-East, where security forces have intensified efforts to dismantle terror camps and restore order.
Military authorities revealed that Gentle De Yahoo had coordinated multiple assaults on both security personnel and civilians, including the recent clash that led to the killing of three of his loyalists in Okigwe.
“The arrest of the terror kingpin is a significant step in our resolve to eliminate criminal elements threatening peace and stability in the region,” a military spokesperson said.
Sources said the suspect was apprehended following a combined operation involving troops of Operation UDO KA and local intelligence networks, which tracked his movement over several days.
Residents of Okigwe have reportedly expressed relief over the arrest, describing the development as “a long-awaited victory” against the armed group that had terrorized communities through abductions, killings, and destruction of property.
Security operatives are said to be intensifying efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of Eze’s gang, while preliminary investigations are ongoing to unravel their sponsors and supply networks.
The Nigerian military reiterated its commitment to sustaining onslaughts against all forms of terrorism, banditry, and separatist violence across the country.
