The Imo State Police Command has detained three of its officers after a viral video surfaced online allegedly showing them engaging in cult-related activities.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday, identifying the affected personnel as Inspector Obinna Peter, Corporal Amaechi Augustine, and Corporal Ejikeme Victor.
According to Okoye, the officers have been placed in custody as investigations into their alleged involvement in cultism and other unprofessional conduct intensify.
“The conduct displayed in the viral video is highly unprofessional and does not reflect the discipline, ethics, and values of the Nigeria Police Force,”Okoye said.
He added that the trio would face an Orderly Room Trial beginning Monday to determine appropriate disciplinary measures in line with police regulations.
The Command further disclosed that Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, ordered a comprehensive probe immediately after the video surfaced on social media, sparking public outrage and calls for accountability.
“The Imo State Police Command remains committed to upholding professionalism, accountability, and transparency in its operations,”the statement added.
Okoye assured the public that the outcome of the internal disciplinary process would be made public, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force would not condone any act capable of undermining its integrity.
The viral video, which has been widely circulated on X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms, allegedly captured the officers displaying cult-like gestures while in uniform — a development that drew widespread condemnation from citizens and rights activists.
